K. Wayne Yang (he/him/his) is the Acting Faculty Director for the Environmental Studies Program. He is also the Provost of John Muir College. He supports faculty with envisioning new courses, collaborating with community organizations and other UC San Diego departments to plan events focused on environmental themes, developing scholarships for students, and guiding the overall future direction of the program. He keeps busy, but can often be found at MOM's Café.

Alissa (she/her/hers) is an Operations and Program Analyst for Muir College, supporting the college’s daily operations and major initiatives. She manages facilities operations and building improvements, coordinates ordering and supplies, and supports the planning and execution of large-scale events within Muir.
Alissa has a master’s degree in Higher Education and has been with Muir College for eight years, and has fifteen years of service at UC San Diego. She manages Mandeville Suite reservations and serves as the ENVR point of contact for ENVR Lounge key distribution in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) building. As a member of the Muir Provost’s Office, she works under Provost K. Wayne Yang and Associate Provost Julie Burelle, assisting with scheduling and administrative coordination for the Office of the Provost.
She also supports the ENVR program visiting-lecturers and guests by coordinating reserved parking and processing digital gift cards for guest volunteers. Please contact Alissa for:

Karla (she/her/hers) is the Program Advisor for the Environmental Studies minor, where she coordinates the student-facing and operational aspects of the program. She has held this role since 2012 and is also a Senior Academic Advisor at Muir College, and shares her time between both roles.
Karla begins working with instructors at the midpoint of the hiring process, when she monitors course enrollments and supports class promotion. She serves as a liaison between the Provost, Associate Minor Directors, and Ashian Nuristani on administrative processes, including early Canvas access, Single Sign-On, email setup, and business systems access for the Environmental Studies minor.
Before each teaching quarter, she provides instructors with key information on deadlines, waitlists, and accommodations, and checks in throughout the term. Karla also supports over 300 students annually through advising, petitions, and enrollment requests, and is a primary point of contact for questions or guidance.

Ashian (she/her/hers) is the Academic Personnel Analyst for Muir College and the Environmental Studies (ENVR) Program. She supports faculty and lecturers by coordinating academic appointments, reappointments, merit reviews, and review files, and guiding departments through academic personnel processes and timelines. She also supports the ASE population with appointments.
Ashian works closely with the Office of the Provost, the Dean’s Office, and Academic Personnel Services, and serves as a primary point of contact for ENVR academic personnel questions.

Helen (They/ them) manages scheduling for the Environmental Studies program and is the Program Coordinator for the Muir College Writing program. They have been staff at UC San Diego for 18 years, and completed their B.A. in Japanese Studies at UC San Diego (Eleanor Roosevelt College). Outside of work, Helen sings in multiple choirs, including some professional ensembles.
